According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Uniform Crime Report, between 2003 and 2007 private citizens have protected themselves and their loved ones from felonious assaults 1,157 times by killing their attackers. The vast majority of these (78.3%) self defense incidents involved the use of a firearm by the armed citizen. Studies have shown that as many as 2.5 million United States citizens use a firearm in self-defense every year. American citizen are entitled to own firearms and to protect themselves from felonious assaults.
